This is a fast and convenient way of taking pictures, and good cameras will automatically focus on objects in many cases. It’s not impossible, however, to take pictures of the starry sky, a moonlit night, clouds, and the bottom of a landscape.

What is “Focus to Infinity”?
In aerial photography, astrophotography, night photography, and sky photography, the term “focus to infinity or infinity focus” is common. Photographers who use a focus to infinity technique aim to capture distant objects that are difficult to capture using autofocus. The camera does not automatically focus on distant subjects such as objects on the far side of a building, or our eyes cannot see the objects, when we set our camera to infinity focus, we manually change the setting. Our photos will be captured in a high-quality format.
Possible Challenges while “focus to infinity”
As a Nikon 18-55mm camera lens does not have focus indicators like modern cameras that have numbers and infinity signs, you’re left with no way to know if the lens is focusing properly. To find infinity many photographers say to go to manual mode, move the ring to the infinity sign, and then back a little bit, but what do they mean by a little bit of an inch, quarter-inch, or what. My solution is to use autofocus to find infinity, and it works 100% of the time. Therefore, this approach is much better in my opinion. As well on my Nikon d3400, I used the same method to find the focus to infinity. Using autofocus, you can still find the lens even if you don’t see the lens’s numbers or indicators.
If you use an 18-55mm Nikon lens, you may experience issues with the rings rotating completely round. They have no stopping point, making the process even more complex. To locate focus infinitely on your lens without an indicator, you must do it yourself, as I will tell you how I do it on my Nikon 18-55mm camera.
How to Focus on the Infinity Nikon 18-55mm?
To help focus an infinite Nikon 18-55mm camera, the most efficient and effective method is to choose an object or subject that is relatively far away. In order to see clearly, the lens ring should be rotated. I recommend it to you as well, since it is a best practice. By focusing on another object, you can reach the desired object.
You should lock the AF focus using Auto Focus lock if you are using AF to focus the object.
Here is what we need to do step by step…
You must focus on HyperFocal distance in this process, and the process is very simple.
1. Choosing the right camera model is the first step. Here I choose the Nikon d3300 because I wanted to choose the d3400, but it wasn’t available.
2. Select an option for the Lens and then select a number. The zoom dimension must here be entered. The number 45 appeals to me.
3. Select the aperture option next, and after selecting the lens number, select the aperture. My choice here is f/32 since it’s a higher number.
4. Finally, you have to check the Subject distance option. Below will appear Hyperfocal distance after you give the distance. My reading was 3.41m.
Affinity can be achieved by focusing an object at a distance of 3.41 meters in the aperture application.
How do you manually focus on infinity?
You can focus the cameras to infinity with ease using the following methods. To focus a camera to infinity, you need a distance indicator and an infinity indication.
- Activate manual mode on your camera.
- You can now position the lens ring in front of the infinity sign (∞).
- Back your ring up just a bit. My recommendation is to set the setting to 16ths of an inch. Slide it more up or down if it isn’t working for you.
Secondly, get close to the target, make adjustments, and you’ll get a focus area that reaches infinity.
When can I focus on infinity?
In situations in which our cameras don’t focus objects automatically using Autofocus, we use focus to infinity or infinity focus instead. The cameras did not focus objects correctly because of low light when taking night pictures, for example. Similarly, if the camera can’t focus on an object due to its distance, we focus on infinity.
There’s a problem with the lens focusing?
There are a few things you need to look at and adjust, so I hope this will work for you if the lens does not focus on the infinity mark. Firstly, avoid focusing on objects with long distances. Attempt to focus on an object that is close. Observe the object you are trying to focus on to infinity once you have adapted your focus. Occasionally your lenses’ rings may cause this problem, so check them occasionally. Occasionally, lenses won’t focus on far-away objects; check your lens to be sure; if not, replace it. Is autofocus available on Nikon’s d3400?
